Power Over 9000! Level Your Seker Factory DAO NFT
NFTs make for cool art and PFPs, but their non-fungible nature also make for great governance tokens. Web3 is about exploring new technology that enables community and human coordination in ways never possible before. The intersection of art and technology that has led to the boom of NFT series has paved the way for community building. Get an NFT, gain access to a Discord or parties, and feel like you are in a special club. But what if that NFT could do even more? What if it represented your voting rights and baked-in incentive aligning rewards for contributing to the community like a DAO mining protocol? We are on the advent of DAOs started with NFTs.
Many PFPs projects like CryptoCoven are throwing around the idea of enabling NFTs to have voting rights. This can be done easily with a Snapshot strategy that associates one account holding an NFT with one vote but lacks anti-sybil measures. At Seker Factory DAO (a creative commons for explorers) we realized the potential of this and have crafted our membership NFT with fair voting in mind.
Introducing The Seker Factory Clearance Cards
We have coded a unique NFT that has the ability to be evolved by DAO proposal. This lets us build a DDID (Decentralized Digital Identity) protocol, contribution tracking, rewards, and sub-DAOs directly into the NFT itself. To accomplish this, we needed to find a way to “soulbind” the token to the DAO members.
Transferability
Vitalik described the desire for a soulbound NFT to achieve fair voting, and we were actively building something very similar. One of the desired properties of soulbound NFTs is to remove the ability to transfer. If any Clearance Card is transferred, a pre-hook function is triggered that will reset the level back to zero. This incentivizes holders to not sell their earned reputation or access level but does not block them entirely from selling the NFT as a speculative asset at level 0. This separates the concerns of when it’s acceptable to sell, and when it’s not.
Contribution Tracking, Special Access, and Incentive Rewards
Clearance cards are your way of grazing our creative commons with us. They will give you the ability to apply for having your art shown in the physical and metaverse location (see seasonal cohort below), have your physical body scanned and portaled into VR Chat (more on this soon), attend our special events and contribute to earn tokens, and the ability to be interviewed on our upcoming TV show featured on Greg Cipes NFTV network to spotlight your own creative or web3 projects.
Any holder of a Clearance Card is eligible to gain access to special events (both IRL as well as in the metaverse) and has ground floor access to our community of creatives and the works they produce. We have cyber galas, themed events, music events, and more that we are currently throwing — with even grander plans for the coming months. Have an idea for something cool? We will have secret events for the Top Clearance Card holders and perhaps for those with special designated levels and we have a special physical + metaverse event announcement coming soon for all card holders, stay tuned.
We will be issuing an ERC20 token as a reward mechanism for contribution that must be obtained by anyone not holding a Clearance Card to attend our events. You can think of this like a mining protocol where owning a membership is like owning GPUs to participate in the Bitcoin protocol. You will be rewarded tokens for being a participating member that are used to attend events for anyone that is not a member. Given that our DAO is geared heavily towards building and holding awesome events, we can use this to track contribution. Attend a cool party or help us curate the culture of the digital renaissance and earn SEKER tokens. We are crafting proposals now for the specifics of the SEKER ERC20 currency that can be earned by all card holders.
Having a level 10 Clearance Card indicates that you have contributed enough to be eligible for dividend sharing equity. Seker Factory DAO is closely aligned with co-ops and does not have any equity pre-sold to VCs or outside investors. This means that all of the surplus generated by members will be split by members entirely. We have reserved levels that we can also use to mark more dedicated contributions that earn higher token rewards.
Creative Seasons
Getting involved in helping us curate the future of digital creativity is an easy way to participate and earn rewards. We have passed a proposal to create a seasonal cohort of digital creators that will have level 2 access to the Factories. This means that once selected by the community, they will vote in their own circle on how to best use the commons to present their works. We will be doing a season every quarter and are currently in the Beta Season 0 with Season 1 starting in July. More information on the cohorts will be coming soon.
Governance
Rather than using ERC20 tokens which lend themselves to a plutocracy (purchasing power is equal to voting power), we are opting to use one member vote to be more democratically fair towards our members. Our constitution enforces that all members’ voices are heard and our membership NFT at level 1 is the initial method that we have chosen to accomplish this.
Participation
POAP is an awesome example of using NFTs to prove that you attended an event. Because of this, NFTs can prove that you are human, a type of DDID system. As the Seker Factory DAO specializes in gathering for events, both IRL and digitally, we are in a position to use the Clearance Cards to prove that a member is human to ensure that we achieve one member one vote. If you attend an event, we will record your account and put in a proposal to level your NFT to level 1 for voting rights. If you can’t attend events, you can simply meet with us in Discord to prove your humanity.
Levels
Below is a list of current “levels” and their respective definitions. Here the levels refer to a category and not necessarily a hierarchy of power. Levels 3–9 are currently reserved for future use cases for sub-DAOs or special designation within the main DAO.
Level 0: All base members. This level does not come with voting rights, but holders are eligible to earn rewards.
Level 1: Voting member, proved to be human.
Level 2: Member of a seasonal cohort.
Level 3–9: Reserved.
Level 10: Equity dividends.
